Anxiety Therapy in Wallingford, CT

Live with Confidence and Peace

Are you an anxious person who is consumed by anxiety?

  • Do you often feel like everything’s too much, and you can’t stop thinking about the worst that could happen?

  • Is it hard for you to sit still and unwind, no matter how hard you try?

  • Are you dealing with random anxiety attacks?

  • Have you tried things like meditation or yoga but still can’t shake the fear and worry?

  • Are you afraid to speak up because you’re worried people might judge or reject you?

You might find yourself constantly overthinking every conversation and interaction. You replay what you said to your boss or coworkers, and worry about how to speak up to your partner without sounding needy, weak, or foolish. What if they think you're too much and pull away? It feels impossible to set boundaries, and speaking up seems out of reach and terrifying.

Anxiety Makes You Second-Guess Yourself

Deep down, you know these worries are probably overblown, but when your heart races, your palms sweat, and panic sets in, it’s hard to stay calm. Your mind is always in “fight or flight” mode, and it’s exhausting. Every day feels like a struggle just to keep going, and you can’t help but wonder—what if you could do more than just survive? What if you could really live, be present, and enjoy life?

The truth is, you don’t have to let anxiety control you. Anxiety therapy can help you build a better relationship with it. You'll learn how to spot the signs of anxiety before it takes over and find ways to ease its grip. That way, YOU stay in control, not your anxiety

Everyone feels anxious sometimes, and it’s not always a bad thing

A lot of people deal with anxiety. From chronic anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorders, to phobias. According to the World Health Organization, anxiety is the most common mental health condition. Anxiety also isn’t the monster we often think it is. Actually, anxiety has been an instrumental survival tool used to keep us safe from real dangers like predators and other threats by our triggering the “fight or flight” response. It helped us stay alert and ready to act. But now, in our modern, safer world, we don’t face those same dangers. However, that survival switch still gets “turned on” when our brain senses something as a potential threat, even if it’s just stress from work or everyday problems.

Anxiety can be like smoke and mirrors

Anxiety is like a magician that gives us the illusion something is bad and scary but in reality, isn’t. Our brain perceives something as dangerous and jumps straight into a "danger alert" mode, having us ignore logic and reality. This can cause us to get lost in anxious thoughts, leading us away from seeing the actual evidence. Often, reality isn't as anxiety-filled as we imagine it to be. In fact, research shows that about 90% of the things we worry about never happen (1). This is because anxiety tends to exaggerate the worst-case scenarios and makes us forget our own strengths and ability to handle challenges.

Working with the right anxiety therapist can help you recognize when anxiety is distorting your thoughts and guide you in building the tools for anxiety management. With the right support, you can learn to trust your strengths, freeing yourself from anxiety’s power.

Anxiety Therapy Lets You Be in the Driver’s Seat

Many of us are dealing with anxiety, and it can be exhausting and defeating. Constant worries and fears can hold you back from enjoying the present and connecting with the people you care about. While anxiety may feel overwhelming, anxiety therapy can help you learn to redirect that energy, allowing you to feel free and confident as you pursue the life you truly want.

What Our Time Together Will Be Like

Together, we'll form a supportive partnership as you explore your anxiety and discover ways for anxiety management. In our first session:

  • Dive into your personal experiences and understand what you've been through that are causes to your anxiety problems

  • Discuss your goals and expectations towards healing so you will start controlling your anxiety.

After our first meeting:

  • We’ll dig deeper and explore your anxiety to gain a better understanding of how it works. Anxiety can sometimes feel automatic, like a reflex—it might stem from old habits, family patterns, or past trauma. You will understand its roots so you can see the bigger picture as you learn to control your anxiety and stop being stuck in the past.

  • We’ll break down distorted thinking patterns that fuel anxiety, helping you focus on the facts and respond with more clarity and calm.

  • Learn to be more intentional and mindful to stay grounded, keeping your body and mind relaxed on what’s really happening right now.

You Might be Wondering...

  • Is there a cure for my anxiety?

Even though, there are no cures for anxiety, anxiety therapy can be effective at managing and reducing your anxiety by giving you the insight and tools, but it won't eliminate it. As you know, anxiety is a survival tool.

  • How long will anxiety therapy last?

It depends on your level of anxiety and you're finding the tools that most help you. Some people find the coping skills that work in a few sessions while others who have more enduring anxiety stemming from childhood can last longer.

  • How often will we meet?

I recommend meeting weekly to help build rapport and maintain the momentum you've initiated by reaching out for support. This can create a solid foundation for our work together as you learn tools for anxiety management. After some time, we can reassess and adjust the frequency of our sessions as needed.

A Supportive Ally Committed to Your Personal Growth Towards

Throughout our journey, not only will you develop the toolkit for anxiety management and understand the causes of your anxiety, but it will be a safe place to discuss the things that scare you the most, even those tough truths you might not have shared with anyone. You will feel unburdened from the fears that once held you back.

You may receive “homework” to practice what we discuss in treatment for your anxiety, giving you the chance to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. Plus, we’ll share a few laughs along the way. Anxiety can feel like a dramatic soap opera, ridiculous and over the top. Sometimes, you might even find yourself laughing at how creative your anxious thoughts can be.

With counseling, you’ll notice:

  • More confidence to tackle challenges that once felt overwhelming.

  • Fulfilling and meaningful relationships as you learn to communicate more openly and honestly.

  • You’ll be able to relax and enjoy life without anxiety distracting you from the present moment so you find ways, so anxiety is no longer controlling you.
